I’ve popped my cherry

20 Jul

It was my first time today. Today was the day when I wrote my very first explicit sex scene, this may sound strange given that I am styling myself as a contemporary erotic author but that doesn’t mean I’ve penned dozens of these things before.

Sure, I’ve had my share of close encounters, written a few snippets here and there to loosen things up before taking the plunge but this was my very first full on – proper – sex scene that I intend to share with the world.

It’s not everyday a person at my stage of life gets to have a first time – it’s the kind of milestone that deserves to be shared.

But here’s the best part, I get to continue to refine it until it shines. Take out the mistakes, edit the regrets and revise any awkwardness. If only some of my other “first times” could be made so shiny 😉

Six Sentence Sunday

15 Jul

I am so excited. This is my first ever Six Sunday, but more than that this is also the first time I have shared my writing with anyone other than my cat. I have thoroughly enjoyed reading the wonderful snippets people share and I am somewhat nervous about joining such amazing company. It’s a daunting task trying to pack atmosphere, characterisation, and intrigue into just six sentences.

Well, whether I’m up for the challenge or not, everyone has to start somewhere… so here I go.

This scene is taken from a short erotic fiction piece I am working on called “Kissed By A Rose.” The title was inspired by a song by the artist Seal. If you’re interested you can watch the film clip on you tube by following this link. The song has nothing to do with the story, but it’s a good song nonetheless.

But enough about Seal and more about the scene.

Candice is in the middle of a job interview with Ebony Rose, the proprieter of The Rose, a luxury hotel in Manhattan. Ebony just asked Candice what she believed The Rose was all about and she wasn’t all that impressed with her answer.

Ebony sat back in the chair, arms crossed in front of her. “It’s clear you’ve visited our website, but I was after your understanding, not your ability to memorise our marketing material; try again.”
Her mouth was suddenly dry. Candice knew that the outcome of this interview hinged on whatever she said next. “The Rose is all about creating experiences.”
“Go on,” Ebony said, leaning forward once more.

Drawing Inspiration

10 Jul

As I sit down to write what I hope will be something I would be proud to attach my name to, I find myself thinking about authenticity. How do I write a scene that is both engaging and intense? Do I draw only upon my own experience? Should I research in books and films? Should I head out and seek a whole raft of new experiences so that I can write confidently about them?

I must say that option three sounds intriging but I worry that doing so will distract me too much from the important task of actually writing something. So… what to do?

Don’t have any answers but when I do I’ll be sure and let you know what’s what. For now I am having fun imagining the possibilities.

I’ve taken the plunge

8 Jul

It’s time to exorcise my demons… or perhaps exercise them. I haven’t decided which it will be just yet. That’s the beauty of having no comittments. For the first time in a long time I don’t have to be anywhere, do anything, say anything except what I want to be, do, or say. I am free to be me… now all I need do is figure out who that is.

I have always had a dream, the dream to one day publish a novel but the kinds of stories I liked typically graced the pages of plastic covered mens magazines. I am gratified to see that the world appears to have made a shift and it’s a shift I can get behind, or under, even on top of from time to time.

I know it’s cliche to have a post like this one but I don’t care. I am Emily … hear me roar!
